Biden Accomplishments 2021-2022

Inflation Reduction Act

• Caps Medicare out of pocket drug costs at $2000 per year

• Medicare can now negotiate down the cost of medications

• Reduces the deficit

• Beefs up the IRS to go after wealthy tax cheats.

• Caps Medicare insulin costs at $35 per month (Republicans sabotaged the same for private insurance).

• Taking 100 actions to lower household energy costs - including tax credits for energy efficient upgrades (appliances, insulation, EVs, heat pumps, etc.).

CHIPS and Science Act

• Makes more semiconductors in the US - increases supply lines and national security. 

• Will add 700,000 manufacturing jobs including Union jobs

The American Rescue Plan

• Funded free Covid-19 vaccination and testing campaign

• Provided 7 million emergency rental assistance payments to those at risk for eviction

• Approximately 78% fully vaccinated.

• Delivered needed relief to families by sending over 160 million checks to Americans, expanding food and rental assistance, and providing aid to thousands of small businesses

• The expanded Child Tax Credit led to the largest-ever one-year decrease in childhood poverty in American history.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

• Massive investment in zero-emission public transit

• Allocated billions to clean up abandoned mines and oil wells

• Fund research of next-generation clean energy technologies

• Massive investment in nationwide EV charging stations

• Investment in high speed internet - Over 15 million households receiving lower cost or free high-speed internet through the Affordable Connectivity Program

• Massive investment in rebuilding roads, bridges, ports and airports

• In 2022 alone, repairs will begin on 65,000 miles of roads and 1,500 bridges.

• Investment in upgrading the passenger rail system

• Investment in a resilient power grid

• Investments in clean energy technologies

The PACT Act

• Expanded health benefits for Veterans exposed to toxic burn pits

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act

• First gun safety legislation in 30 years

• Requires people 18-21 to go through enhanced background checks

• Narrows the "boyfriend loophole" to keep guns out of the hands of convicted dating partners 

• Funds crisis interventions, including extreme risk protection order ("red flag") laws

• Makes significant investments to address the mental health crisis in America, including in schools

• Clarifies who needs to register as a federally licensed gun dealer and run background checks before selling a single weapon

• Makes gun trafficking and straw purchases distinct federal crimes

Federal judiciary

• Appointed first black woman to Supreme Court - Kentanji Brown Jackson

• Appointed a record number of women, racial and ethnic minorities, civil rights lawyers and public defenders to the federal judicial system.  

• Sixty-seven percent of President Biden’s nominees are women, and 66% are people of color

Reproductive rights

• Signed two Executive Orders to protect access to reproductive health care, including abortion and contraception, and safeguard patient privacy and sensitive health information

• Has made clear his commitment to fighting any attack by a state or local official who attempts to interfere with women exercising their constitutional right to travel out of state for medical care

• The voters protected abortion in Kansas, Michigan, Kentucky and other states

Student debt relief

• 40 million with student loans could benefit

• Nearly 20 million can have their loans fully canceled

• Nearly 90% of the relief will go to borrowers earning less than $75,000 per year

• No one in the top 5% of incomes will benefit

• Republicans, unfortunately, are trying to stop this student debt relief.

Marijuana

• Pardoned all federal offenses of simple marijuana possession

• The Administration is also initiating the process to review how marijuana is scheduled under federal law. Marijuana is currently a Schedule I drug, the same classification as for heroin and LSD and even higher than for fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Ukraine

• Supported Ukraine and its people from a brutal, unprovoked and illegal Russian invasion

• Rallied the world around this cause

• Imposed economic sanctions against Russia supported by the EU and many countries across the world

• Secured bipartisan support at home to deliver critical weapons and economic and humanitarian assistance

Counterterrorism Missions

• At President Biden’s direction, the United States took key leaders of ISIS and Al Qaeda off the battlefield

Advancing Equity and Racial Justice, Including Historic Criminal Justice Reform

• On his first day in office, President Biden signed a historic executive order directing the federal government to use every tool available to advance equity and racial justice

• Delivered criminal justice reforms to improve prison conditions and help people get back on their feet after incarceration

• To strengthen public safety and public trust, he signed a landmark executive order on safe, effective, and accountable policing that mandated federal reforms such as banning chokeholds, restricting no-knock entries, creating a national police accountability database, and restricting the transfer of military equipment to local police departments.

Strengthened alliances and partnerships

• Supported Finland and Sweden joining NATO

• The G7 has become the premier platform in coordinating the international response to the biggest challenges we face from energy security to the swift economic costs we’ve imposed on Russia for its brutal war

Aggressive climate action

• Biggest climate investment in history

• The U.S. is positioned to achieve our ambitious climate goals of cutting our emissions in half by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050.

• The President has taken executive action and signed legislation to develop clean energy at home, accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, and reduce pollution that endangers overburdened communities

Jobs

• Created 10 million jobs

• 17 states have unemployment at or below 3%

• 11 states and D.C. now have their lowest unemployment rate

• More small business applications than any year in history

• Total unemployment rate is at historically low 3.7%

• Near a record low unemployment rate for Hispanics on record

• Near a record low unemployment rate for African-Americans on record

Health Insurance and Health

• 5.8 million people have gained new health insurance coverage in 2 years through the ACA (Obamacare)

• Lowest uninsured rate ever at 8%

• Over 14 million people total enrolled in the recent ACA (Obamacare) enrollment period and premiums reduced by $800

• Passed - drug companies cannot raise medication prices in a year more than the rate of inflation

Other

• $15 minimum wage for Federal workers and contractors

• Helped bring gas prices down more than $1.20 from their summer 2022 peak

• Passed 15% minimum corporate income tax

• Temporary protection status for 6 new countries - Ukraine, Afghanistan, Cameroon, Burma, Ethiopia, Venezuela

• First approval of over-the-counter hearing aids

War

• After more than 20 years of conflict spanning three previous administrations, President Biden acted decisively to bring our troops home from Afghanistan

Gender based violence

• Reauthorized and strengthened the Violence Against Women Act that expired under Trump.

• President Biden also signed historic legislation ending forced arbitration of sexual assault and sexual harassment, protecting survivors and making it safer to report harassment in the workplace

• President Biden took action to end the practice of surprise medical billing. By strengthening consumer protection rules and expanding price transparency, the Biden Administration protected millions of Americans from unexpected health care costs.

LGBTQ+

• Passed marriage protections for same-sex and interracial couples
